Water:
After a treatment your tissues are re-hydrating themselves, therefore it is vital that you drink water before and after your massage. It is best to use room temperature water with a squeeze of lemon/lime juice to re-mineralize your water. Adding the lemon/lime makes it easier for your kidneys to use the water.
Perpetuating Factors:
To benefit the most from your massage you need to recognize perpetuating factors. They are habits we do during the day that create imbalances in our posture, which translates into muscular pain. The most common are:
Carrying a heavy purse/briefcase on one shoulder/arm.
Standing with your weight on one leg.
Tucking your chin into your chest when you sleep.
These are just a few of the many perpetuating factors we do during our day to cause muscle imbalance and pain.
Epsom Salt Baths:
If you have high blood pressure and or a heart condition please consult your Physician for any possible risk factors.
Run a bath as hot as you can tolerate, place a minimum of 2 cups of Epsom salts into water. Soak for at least 20 minutes; the object is to sweat. Drink plenty of water during and after your bath. If your feel dizzy, place a cold wet towel around your neck and get out of the bath slowly.
Using Ice:
Use ice to reduce any inflammation, which reduces the occurrence of adhesions, to break the pain tension cycle, and to decrease spasms.
Appropriate times to use ice are:
Ice: 10-12 minutes
Gel pack: 15-20 minutes
Frozen peas: 20-25 minutes.
